Ali Ahmida interviewed by MPBN on ISIS

On October 8, 2014, the Maine Public Broadcasting Network (MPBN) interviewed Ali Ahmida, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Political Science, on the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS)—the topic of a teach-in in which Ahmida participated that day at the University of Southern Maine (USM).

Ahmida warned that the threat of ISIS will be long-standing and far-reaching.  “The consequences of this violent group might not be just regional; it might be international,” said Ahmida.

The teach-in provided an opportunity for more than 100 Portland area community members and students to learn about the present situation in Iraq and Syria and to ask questions of Ahmida and three fellow experts.

The event was sponsored by Peace Action Maine, the World Affairs Council of Maine, and various USM departments.
