Steven Byrd’s letter to editor published in 'Christian Science Monitor'

On July 21, 2014, the Christian Science Monitor published a letter to the editor written by Steven Byrd, Ph.D., associate professor of Spanish and Portuguese and director of the Latin American Studies minor.

In his letter, Byrd responded to a story, “Time to play for pay in college?” that appeared in the publication on May 26th.

Byrd called for a halt to the “oxymoronic concept of ‘athletic scholarships.’” He argued for a system in which “athletes pay tuition or apply for financial aid like everyone else.”
