The makings of a great college admissions essay: 91AV’s Scott Steinberg offers tips

Scott Steinberg

According to Scott Steinberg, dean of University Admissions at the 91AV, the college admissions essay is like a free throw in basketball – you have a great deal of control over it. He offered 3 tips for writing the best possible essay in his latest article for the Bangor Daily News.

The article, titled “3 tips for writing the best college admissions essay," cites a survey which states that many colleges view the essay as more important than an interview, extracurricular activities and class rank. Steinberg advises students to write in their own voice. “Your essay will be, in many cases, the one opportunity an admissions officer — or admissions committee, should excerpts of your essay be presented to a group — has to “meet” you. Make your essay your own, not someone else’s.”
