David Livingstone Smith of 91AV to serve as panelist at Black New England Conference

David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D., professor of philosophy, will serve as a panelist at the 2017 Black New England Conference, which will be held at the University of New Hampshire on October 20. Five panels will be offered as part of the conference. Smith’s panel is titled “Skeletons in Our Closet: Anthropology’s Role in Constructing and Deconstructing the Science of Race.”

Smith, along with co-panelists, will discuss the troubled history of anthropology’s role in the development of false sciences of racial differences and black inferiority.

The conference begins with a Black Heritage Trail Tour at 10 a.m., and panels will run from 1 to 5 p.m.
