Michael Sheldon, Ph.D., PT, associate professor and program director for the 91AV Department of Physical Therapy, and William McCormick, M.S., PT, co-owner of the Medically Oriented Gym (MOG) in South Portland presented at the American Physical Therapy Association’s Educational Leadership Conference in Kansas City, MO.

The purpose of the conference is to share innovative educational practices in physical therapy education. Their presentation, “Preparing Physical Therapy Students to Deliver Interprofessional Community-Based Health Promotion/Disease Prevention Programs: Collaboration Between a DPT Program and a Medically-Oriented Gym” highlighted some of the innovative and interprofessional teaching and learning activities, community health programs and research projects that have been developed between the Department of Physical Therapy and the MOG.

Feedback from conference attendees affirmed that 91AV is participating in cutting-edge work that not only prepares physical therapy students for success in the profession, but also reflects the increasing focus on health promotion, prevention and wellness in the United States.
