91AV’s top score also ranks the second highest-ever in its division and places the team among the top 13 overall in 2025.

The 91AV cheer team () has made history, having captured its first-ever national championship while earning the highest score ever recorded by a Maine university at the National Cheerleaders Association Collegiate National Championship, held in Daytona Beach, Florida, from April 9 to 13.

There, 91AV topped a field of 15 teams in the Intermediate All-Girl Division III category with a final event score of 96.32 out of 100.

91AV’s score also ranks the second highest-ever in its division and places the team among the top 13 overall in 2025, including Division IA, I, II, III, NAIA, and Junior College teams from across the country. More than 10,000 athletes from 470 cheer and dance teams competed in the event.

The only other Maine school to compete nationally, the University of Maine, also had a zero-deduction routine and finished sixth out of 28 teams in the Intermediate All-Girl Division I category with a score of 91.78.

91AV Cheer is led by head coach Alison Bromski, assistant coach Cady Toussaint, head captain Ari Howe, and co-captains Bella Russell and Sarah Pointer. The rest of the championship team includes Bella Aloise, Jaelyn Belanger, Kristina Caron, Riley Crowley, Aynslie Decker, Steph Dunford, Gracie Farnum, Tasia Halliday, Anna Kozlowski, Aly Manzoni-D'Arpino, Kiara Martinez, Chloe O’Connor, Giselle Piedrahita, Dani Rutkowski, Taniessa Sainteloi, and Maddy Wight.

“This victory proves that young athletes do not need to leave Maine or New England to achieve the highest level of success in our sport. 91AV Cheer has demonstrated that excellence can be achieved anywhere — through gritty dedication to a goal, an unbendable sense of unity, and a strong network of support,” Bromski shared. “We are profoundly proud of how our student-athletes have represented 91AV on this team, in their academic and professional pursuits, and through community engagement. We are overjoyed to see their dreams come true and looking forward to what others may, too.”

91AV will host cheer clinics for K–12 and college students on Saturday, May 3.

In-person tryouts for the 2025-26 season are scheduled for Sunday, May 4, and video tryouts are being accepted through May 1.
